Pirates' Challenge -
Review race is on!
We've now put the Pirates' Challenge teambuilding game onto the website. Oo-aarr me hearties!

We'd love to hear how well it works for our trainers, so we'll give a pirate's goodie bag, worth at least £50, to the first member that sends us a review. That's on top of the Trainers' Market voucher you'd receive anyway!

You can send your reviews to:

Glasstap Strategy
In January, the team at Glasstap sits down together and agrees the company's goals for the next 12 months. We consider our strategy day one of the most important of the year. This year, we thought we’d tell you about the process we used, how it differed from what we’ve done before, and why we like it so much.

Developing our annual strategy has always been an event that involves the full team. And since 2002, our strategy has been developed around five key, equally important, passions that drive the business. Our passions are to be: Customer Oriented, Financially Strong, Innovative, Socially Responsible and Team Spirited.

In previous years, the team has simply sat down together in January and agreed objectives under each of these headings. This was very easy in the early days when there were less than a handful of people agreeing the objectives. As the business has grown though, this simple approach has become less practical. So this year, we did something different.

We wanted to use an approach that encouraged ownership and empowerment, so rather than agree our objectives as a whole team, we started the day by splitting into smaller teams – Sales, Customer Relationship Managers, Admin and Strategic Development. Each team thought about what they could contribute to each of the five passions and developed SMART objectives around these.

We then gathered back together and shared our ideas, and from these we developed a strategy that showed what each team would contribute to the whole.

We think the approach worked really well, partly because everyone in the company felt that they’d had a greater involvement in developing Glasstap’s future plans. And, we’ve probably developed our most challenging and exciting annual plan yet. Of course, the proof of the pudding is in the eating (as our Grans used to say), so we’ll let you know how we got on at the end of the year.

Greener Glasstap
For obvious reasons, we can’t share all of our goals for the year, but we can tell you that we’re aiming to become even greener in 2008. We already source all of our electricity from ‘green’ sources, but this year we’re aiming to offset our remaining carbon emissions.

And, even though our electricity comes from wind, solar or wave energy, we’re still going to try and reduce our usage by 10%. Because, if we reduce the amount we use, there’ll be more green energy available for others.

We already use recycled paper and recycled packaging, but by the end of March, every Trainers’ Market order should be packed in 100% recycled packaging – except the tape. And if someone knows where we can buy recycled sticky tape, please let us know.
