Hi all, Would anyone be able to help out with some ideas for a Minute taking workshop. We would need either a provider or some material that was relevent to University PAs/secretaries/admin teams or staff who work within a committee structure and were hoping to go for a short workshop of around 2 houers in duration.
Would be grateful of any ideas or suggestions.

Hi Amanda,

We have just added a new DVD to Trainers’ Market from Training 4 Fusion Ltd it is called ‘Skills Practice in Minute Taking’ which might be worth having a look at. Here is the link; http://www.trainersmarket.com/ps-4495-19-skills-practice-in-minute-taking-dvd.aspx

Kind regards,

Hi Amanda,

We have recently delivered a Minute Taking session at University of York, so would really understand your needs. The the session was highly interactive and the feedback from the delegates was excellent.

I would be happy to chat through what you are looking for and see how we may be able to support you.

Hi Amanda

We’ve been providing this for two decades and the interesting thing for us is how the people may change but their needs remain the same. Most people who take minutes are worried about it.

Key issues are:
• understanding the structure and format of a set of minutes – why things go where
• the importance of a good audit trail
• working with the Chair
• listening for points not people
• why shorthand is not the answer.

You should easily be able to cover this in two hours – and it’s amazing the confidence you engender by just providing people with this essential knowledge.

Make sure you know your stuff though if you’re planning to run the session – there’s a lot of technical knowledge around meetings and their legalities (especially in settings like Universities) that you need to be aware of.

Try the Glasstap modules and videos as a good starting point – I had input into these so I know they’re technically sound.

Best

Hi Amanda

I'd like to recommend Stella Collins. She specialises in brain friendly learning around dry subjects (like minute taking!) and she's also created and delivered short sessions, lunchtime sessions etc. So she would seem pretty well suited to 2 hour sessions on minute taking!

You can contact her on: 0118 983 6339
Her website is: www.stellarlearning.co.uk

I have no commercial interest here, and know Stella through the Brain Friendly Learning Group which she co-founded and have attended an excellent course run by her.
