Hi Chris, I have used Jack Fruggle's Treasure from Trainers Library in a similar context. At first glance, it seems more about problem solving and decision making. However, there are lots of issues around how the leader allocates tasks (involving or autocratic) and how they keep the team motivated when things maybe slow down half way through. ALso, how they track tasks (this one can really get out of hand, with no-one keeping tabs on what has been done, then you get duplication, frustration etc) Also, managing strengths, preferences and personalities can really come to the fore in this task, with people getting really excited about solving 'their' bit, and not necessarily contributing to the whole.
I have used it quite a few times now, and find it best to ask the team to choose a leader for the duration of the task, or allocate one (depends on the type of course and how well they know each other) and if you programme it carefully, you can warn them to expect a discussion of how the 'leader' managed the Task, the team and the Individuals, and link it back nicely to Adair and Situational Leadership. Also has relevance for Belbins Team Roles, as most people fairly quickly fall into their preferred roles.
Hope this helps, and happy to talk it through if you want more info [email protected]

Hi Chris,
Have you considered Hotel Doldrums in Trainers' Library? It can be run as one long exercise or three shorter ones that look at 'Where are we now?', 'Where do we want to be?' and 'How will we get there?' Participants work in teams and it can be used to cover a lot of management skills. You could even link it to our new module 'Triangle of Responsibility' and ask them to consider how they'll apply these three key areas of responsibility when planning for their hotels' futures.
Hope this helps.

Hi Rebecca Thank you for your reply. I have two main objectives for the day. It is the last sesssion that I will have with them as a group and I would like to consolidate their learning in mainly the following areas. Basic Management/leadership techniques, Problem Solving and Decision making, Communication and a strong element of Teamwork. They have ment every month for the last 7 month and get on well together. There should be 8 of them in the group. I must confess to the second objective is for them to have fun. as I have said it is probably the last time that they will be together. I would like it to be competitive. I realise that it is a "tall order", but there must be a case study out their somewhere! Chris |

Hi Chris,
Could you give a little more information around your specific objectives for that final day?
