Hi all,

I am trying to find companies that have the training department split in to 'design', 'delivery' and 'L & D Business Partner' functions. I am looking to understand the set up, sucesses of this model and the pitfalls.
Would love to hear from you!
Thanks in advance
Rachel

Hi Rachel

I worked under this model about 17 years ago quite early in my career. For me personally (as someone who was delivering training) I found it very limiting and of course your trainer utilisation is very high - I was training 4-5 days every week which is tiring both physically and mentally - I'm not sure I could do it now!

Like one of the other comments, I'm not sure I could see it working other than for very large organisations. In terms of agility, resiliance, flexibility I wonder how it would provide for these essential current skills, though could tap into particular strengths.

Rachel - I have worked in a very large organisation that tried this 3 years ago. It was extremely costly (Ā£1m+). Unfortunately it did not work, only lasting 9-12 months. The organisation has now reverted to individual trainers designing, delivering and managing relationships within the organisation. The outcome of the exercise was an increase in costs to customers and subsequently resulted in a higher customer churn. If you would like to discuss please feel free to contact me at [email protected]. Jackie

Hi Jo,

Thanks for your comments. I do know of some comapnies that do this and a trend seems to be emerging, so I am carrying our research to try and find if this trend is correct.

Thanks for your input.

Kind regards

Rachel

Hi Rachel

My organisation doesn't split the function down; we each fulfill everyone of those roles. I have worked for larger organisations (7000 employees plus) but again, the role has never been split into specific functions. Perhaps it is something only the very biggest employers do? I think perhaps the cost of employing people to only carry out very specific functions may be a little prohibitive for some organisations.
