"Do's and Don'ts" when approaching a "big" company?

Hi all
I'm about to network for the first time into a "big" company which is primarily UK based, but has many international locations as well. I've not made an approach of this kind before, and wondered what advice you would suggest I consider beforehand. My initial contact is to their UK head office. I've already identified the person concerned, and I have a personal referral in to this person. My question is really about the "do's and dont's" for my inital call and meeting. I'll be trying to establish their requirements for general "soft skills" and leadership training. Many thanks in advance.

Hi Rachel

Thanks very much for your advice. I'll certainly try what you suggest, and I appreciate your help on this.

Hi,
I assume from your posting that you are an external consultant working within this large company (I hope that is right).
I would use the main contact you have to gain rapport and to establish who they work with and who the main stakeholders are.
Once you have done this, then use these contacts as your way in and use your existing contact as a 'name' to help you gain access to the other people that you need to engage.
Personally I would not use email to contact people, as your email could get lost or not read if they don't know who you are - pick up the phone to introduce yourself and ask for half an hour of their time over a coffee to explain what you need and to find out if they are the right person.
I hope this helps - if you want to contact me please email me [email protected].
Kind regards
Rachel
