Morning Lorraine, What sector do you work in? This will determine greatly the LMS you use if you want to utilse any online learning content. Alternatively you may wish to host your own learning content or simply utilse the data analysis functions on an LMS. I have worked in Care for many years and can recommend a few LMS systems suited to that sector if that is of any use? Kind regards, Gill |

HI, I'm also interested in this topic. At the moment we use a webinar platform on which I record webinars so people can play them back whenever they want - the system will tell me if anyone accesses the material and that's quite cheap - under ?100 per month and includes storage space and there's some nice features that are quite good, but it's not as good as an LMS system. I guess it depends on whether you want to create your own on line learning or whether you are looking for one that already supplies material. There is a company i know of that supply this sort of thing, but I don't know how much it would cost, I;m afraid, but do email me if you'd like the name of the company. [email protected] |

I would recommend Brightwave's Tessello platform. Very intuitive - the communities are particularly good. It doesn't come with content though so depends on whether you want to populate with your own materials and curated content such as ted talks. Hemsley Fraser also have a good portal that has content. Learning tehchnologies is on next week and a good place to start if you are looking around.

Hi Lorraine, There are quite a few good turn-key Learning Management Systems out there. You've probably heard of free open source platforms like Moodle, but they do take a bit of work to configure as you would like them and you may need to pay for development if you don't have the skills internally, in addition to paying for hosting the platform. If you want something well-packaged, without the headache of having to configure it yourself, I would take a look at Absorb LMS, they will often provide you with a free prototype system (with your own branding)so that you can have a play and see if it is what you are after, before you have to go firm on a decision. The implementation of the LMS from providers like Absorb can often be free, but the main cost comes with hosting the LMS. The annual hosting costs can range from anywhere from around ?9,000 - ?20,000 p.a. depending on the number of user accounts you need (price ranges are often bracketed 0-500 users, 500-1200 etc or a bespoke price for the number of accounts you need). If you can get out of the office, it might be worth taking a trip to the Learning Technologies Conference at Olympia on 31 Jan and 1 Feb at Olympia. The exhibition that runs alongside the conference is free and most of the top LMS providers and e-learning developers will be there. Hope this helps. Andy |

Hi Lorraine, I have just implemented an LMS into our company, similar size of 200 employees and for the same reasons as you've outlined. We have had an LMS before but it didn't do what I wanted it to and this is much better and much more personalised. My email is [email protected] if you want to chat about it and I'll give you the contact details of the supplier. thanks Jamie |
