Hi Andrea, if I can be sent these examples as well I would be very grateful. My email address is [email protected]. I have previously successfully used competency-based questions for managers in a previous company and although they seemed quite onerous initially, it did give the candidates lots of opportunities to come up with great examples of what they had done and if they didn't have the experience, give a great insight into what they might do. It would be good to know how you get on with yours and their effectiveness so happy to discuss further where necessary.

Hi Gaynor, I developed a competency based interview guide few years ago which might meet your need. It contains a dictionary of competency based interview questions catalogued against 10 generic competencies. The main problem is that the programme is saved on a CD ROM and we have not yet got around to converting it to an online solution. If you contact me on [email protected] or 07767 601563 I'd be happy to provide some more information. Thanks, John.

Hi Gaynor, An exercise that I have used previously in this type of assessment centre is to split the applicants into two groups providing each group with an flat-pack Ikea Malm bedside table, tools and no instructions. Set a time for each group to build the table and observe. The natural leaders will take over and lead the group allowing you to observe their communication style and skills. Thanks, Tony
