Hi, we're totally new to creating our own e-learning. Any recommendations for starting off, e-learning design training etc. would be most welcome. We don't currently have an LMS either, we'd be looking to build gradually, so any cost-effective suggestions would be helpful.
Many thanks,
Janette

Many thanks all, some great tips and recommendations. Currently investigating these, I may get back to some of you individually in due course if that's still ok

Hi Janette, I highly recommend Nimble, we have worked with them over the last 3 years and they are amazing. It's simple to use, and you can create and brand all of your own content. Great customer service and they support you throughout. Really easy and useful LMS too. Be happy to pick up with you if you want more info. [email protected] Thanks Gayle

I'd also recommend looking at Nimble, it's super easy to create content and you don't need software such as Captivate or Articulate. I'm just at testing stage so far but like what I'm seeing! Staff are great too. Regards Alison

Hi Janette, We've implemented our own LMS this year - and working on a very tight budget we used a free solution from Latitude Learning, which can host up to 100 active users. It also has the functionality to build in post-training assessments, so we've used this for our health and safety induction training to ensure understanding. We have purchased some of the content from Trainers Library and are also creating our own using Powerpoint (which you can then convert to a SCORM file). We're also lucky to have a Production team within the business, so I'm hoping I can utilise some of their skills to produce some videos for us. We're slowly building up content over time. Hope that helps, but happy to provide more information if you want to get in touch directly - [email protected]. Kind regards, Nicola

Hi Janette

I recently purchased and began using the iSpring suite www.ispringsolutions.com

On the authoring side - it integrates into PowerPoint and you can create some fantastic eLearning resources - and knowledge review quizzes - and lots more besides - without having to learn too much new. If you can create in PowerPoint - then iSpring is excellent.

I also have their LMS which is very cost effective (in my opinion) and whilst I haven’t used this that much at the moment - it looks really useful and easy to use as well.

I have created a few eLearning courses quite quickly and had very positive feedback.

I have also trialled most of the others out there -including those mentioned in other replies.

Let me know if you want any more info and I will share my contact details.

Have fun :-)

Hi Janette,

I'd echo what Jane said about understanding why you want an LMS and what you want it to do, and who you want to use it. Are you looking for a system that 'manages' all of your learning, including courses, self-study, e-learning etc?

If your priority is to have something that gives managers access to learning at their desk, or on the move, as well as a library of activities they can use with their teams, Managers' Library might be a different, cheaper option. (https://www.managerslibrary.com).

As Zoe has said, alternatively, if you do buy an LMS, you can buy our self-study content to sit within that. :-)

Let us know if we can help.

All the best,

Rod

Hi Janette I think the starting point is to get clear objectives on what you want your elearning / LMS to do and how you want people to use and interact it (so the user experience) but also the data you need to get out of it (reporting). There are lots of good off the shelf e-learning providers that are doing some innovative stuff around playlists - Hemsley Fraser and Linked in learning are worth looking at for providers that have good range of content that will allow you to build playlists. For a simple LMS you could go for a moodle, or Brightwave and Fuse have good commutity, or for more capability something like cornerstone or saba. All depends on your budget, size of org and objectives. Depending on your timeline - learning technologies is always worth a visit and they have a twitter page to review too. Hope that's a good start. Jane

Hi Janet,

I would strongly recommend that you take a look at Nimble. We have used them to create in-house eLearning for the past three years and they are excellent. Nimble Author is really easy to use and comes with its own LMS. The solution is very cost effective and the customer service is outstanding. You can get a free trial on-line so there's nothing to lose by taking a look.

Here's the link;

Our account manager is a lady called Dee who I'm sure would be happy to answer any questions that you may have.

Thanks,
Tony

Hi Janette,
I'm afraid I can't help with the technical side (IT baffles me!) but we can help with LMS content so if you've not already done so please do have a look at our LMS Content Package, http://www.trainersmarket.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=462.
I'll pop you an e-mail through with further details too.
Give me a call if I can help at all, my direct line is 01434 380016.
Thanks, Zoe.
