Hello all, I'm new to Trainer's Library and am planning for a 3-day soft skills training course for university students. This course aims to improve students' employability by encouraging students to focus not just their qualifications but also the soft skills that employers are looking for. Has anyone here run a training using these materials for students before? If yes, could you please share with me your experience, anything I should take note, or how's best to promote this to students?

Hi Joyce, I have been training university students in Leadership skills for the last few years, particularly transferable and soft skills that employers are looking for such as Interpersonal Savvy, Developing potential in others, Leading a team etc. I use a mixture of some materials from Trainers library and some that I have written myself. I try to add scenarios based on situations relevant to HE students. I find it helps if the participants have a responsible role such as course rep, volunteer or societies committee member, so they can relate the tools and techniques learned to their own experience. The feedback I get tells me they like interactive small group work and opportunities for discussion. Regarding promotion, I work with the Students Unions' to recruit, attendance is not compulsory and a certain amount of flexibility is built in to the schedule to accommodate timetable changes and extra curricular activities. I have delivered similar programmes several times. I do cover off CV's, performing at interview, Linked In, other social media. From soft skills, I mainly delivered around Communication, receiving feedback, attitudes.

Thanks Maria. I am currently putting together the content for the 3-day workshop. Just wondering if anyone have had similar experience and can share how did it go for you? e.g. did it take longer time for the students to complete the task? Did they find the debrief questions challenging?
