Time:
Including breaks, this workshop will take a total of 7 hours to run.

Aims:
• To improve the communication process and communication skills within the workplace.
• To help participants identify barriers to communication and how to overcome them.
• To give participants the skills to build rapport with others.
• To demonstrate the importance of listening and not making assumptions.
• To help participants understand how to make communication clear.
• To show that what is meant is not always what is understood (intention v perception).
• To demonstrate the importance of asking open questions to clarify understanding.

Outcomes:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
• Describe barriers to communication and how to overcome these.
• Explain how to build rapport with others.
• Recognise the importance of listening and not making assumptions.
• Describe how to make communication clear and the importance of clarity.
• Understand that what is meant is not always what is understood (intention v perception).
• Recognise the importance of asking open questions to clarify understanding.
• Describe their experience of a team activity and the key learning points about communication from that.

Group Size:
This workshop has been designed to work best with groups of up to 15 participants..

Useful For:
Staff up to supervisor/junior manager level.

You'll Need:
• Flipchart, colourful pens and post-it notes.
• Name tents or plain A4 paper.
• 1 set of Filing Frenzy Shape Cards and 3 envelopes per team of 3. Filing Frenzy card packs are available to purchase from our shop. Each pack contains 10 sets of the shape cards used. You will need to print copies of The Rules and The Challenge Cards.
• The Building Rapport video.
• A mobile phone per participant. Let participants know before the training that they will need to bring their mobile phones with them.
• 1 blindfold and 24-piece jigsaw for every 2 participants.
• 5 hula hoops and skittles or cones to mark the Glasstap Sheep Trials course and plenty of space. Each team will also need a whistle.
• At least 2 rooms - preferably one for each team involved in Welsh Holiday. In addition you’ll need 1 copy of OS Landranger map 125, and OS Landranger map 124 for every 2 teams in play. Each team will also need a length of string at least 1 metre long.
• Sweets of varying wrapper colours - at least 2 sweets per participant.

Notes:
Glasstap Sheep Trials requires access to an empty space (see page 52). If this is not viable, you may prefer to use the module Just Beat It as an alternative.

Please note that all timings in the following agenda are approximate. You may need to allow more time on certain aspects of the course and less on others, depending on the needs of your participants.
