9:00 AM Dinner for Two - A Look at Leadership Skills

This module is expected to last for 15 minutes

Aims:
• To identify the leadership traits your participants most admire.
• To help establish learning objectives.




9:20 AM The Leadership Identikit

This module is expected to last for 75 minutes

Aims:
• To explore perceived differences and similarities between leadership and management.
• To explore the relationship between leadership and management.




10:20 AM Break
10:35 AM Putting on the Style - Introduction to Leadership Styles

This module is expected to last for 75 minutes

Aims:
• To explore different styles of leadership and the advantages and disadvantages of each approach.
• To understand how to successfully apply each of the leadership styles, as appropriate, in the workplace.




11:50 AM Motivators

This module is expected to last for 60 minutes

Aims:
• To explore what motivates us.
• To identify ways of maintaining motivation.



Notes

Encourage the participants to make connections between leadership styles and motivation.


For example, if a leader’s style is exclusively ‘tell’, what impact will that have on staff motivation in the long-term? If it’s too ‘laid back’ what affect might that have on motivation and morale?


Allow 10 minutes for this discussion and then summarise the group’s thoughts on a flipchart and encourage participants to make notes.



12:50 PM Action Planning - Implementing the Learning

This module is expected to last for 15 minutes

Aims:
• To allow participants to reflect upon what they have learnt and create a plan for implementing the learning with clear goals and timescales.
• To identify the additional support they will need in order to achieve their goals.

2:00 PM Building Strong Bridges - Basic Leadership Skills

This module is expected to last for 75 minutes

Aims:
• To encourage participants to consider planning and preparation as part of leadership.
• To facilitate discussion around playing to the team's strength.
• To consider factors that motivate staff to perform well.
• To encourage staff to self assess, review and reflect on performance.
• To encourage leaders to consider their communication skills.
• To encourage leaders to consider the question of keeping people motivated.
• To demonstrate leadership skills in a practical task.




3:15 PM Break
3:30 PM Blind Guiding - Exploring Leadership and Followership

This module is expected to last for 90 minutes

Aims:
• To help participants understand what their leadership (and followership) style is through physicalising part of the leadership process.




4:30 PM Action Planning - Implementing the Learning

This module is expected to last for 15 minutes

Aims:
• To allow participants to reflect upon what they have learnt and create a plan for implementing the learning with clear goals and timescales.
• To identify the additional support they will need in order to achieve their goals.
