How negative people influence others

The question was posted by Tina on 17/02/2017 13:29:04

Does anyone have a short film clip they are willing to share, of how someone who is very negative walks into a positively energised room and manages with their negative actions and words to change the positive attitude into negativity without them even realising that they have.
Thanks for your help
Tina

Hi Tina - I don't have a film clip suggestion, but do have a very simple but effective training activity which illustrates this point really well. If you'd like details, drop me a line at [email protected] or even better, ring me on 01373 837333 and I can explain it to you. Best wishes Nicki

Tina, I take a slightly different approach, which this might be of interest for you:I set the scene by saying "The Manager's mood is like a virus...it's contagious!" I then: 1. I show this clip, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RP4abiHdQpc where a baby is laughing...just watch your delegates NOT laugh! 2. then show this to demonstrate why this happens, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzMqPYfeA-s 3. facilitate discussion and lead into managing our emotions, what triggers us into a bad mood, how to manage etc. best regards Jennifer

What a brilliant request, Tina! I shall speak to Rod right away about adding this idea to the videos we are developing in 2017 (watch this space!)

In the meantime, there are a few modules for yout to look at that cover the importance of positive attitudes, which you might find useful:

- The Challenge of Speaking Positively (https://www.trainerslibrary.com/user_area/materials/training_doc_details.aspx?doc=1715&area=4). This gives you a chance to really focus on the language participants use and the impact on the whole room when others choose positive language.

- Reach for the Stars (https://www.trainerslibrary.com/user_area/materials/training_doc_details.aspx?doc=1683&area=28). Simple way to emphasise that we can all achieve more when we set our mind to it.

- Diamond or Glass (https://www.trainerslibrary.com/user_area/materials/training_doc_details.aspx?doc=263&area=2). This one is a great way to emphasise the tiny differences in the attitude of individual employees makes on the customer experience.

- Horror and Happy Ever After Stories (https://www.trainerslibrary.com/user_area/materials/training_doc_details.aspx?doc=224&area=4). A great way to encourage participants to share their experiences of working with the negative people versus those with a better attitude.

- Five Balls (https://www.trainerslibrary.com/user_area/materials/training_doc_details.aspx?doc=108&area=4). This is a really fun exercise and will only work if everyone contributes positively and energetically.

- Creating Your Environment (https://www.trainerslibrary.com/user_area/materials/training_doc_details.aspx?doc=1697&area=4). This exercise can help you to encourage participants to take responsibility for their own attitude and how they can take control of it rather than blame others...

I hope that these help Tina, but if I can be of further assistance, please just email me ([email protected]) and I will be happy to help.

All the best

Frances

Hi Tina,
There is a training company called Video Arts that I've got lots of resource from, they might have one. Also you tube- if you have access at work!
Thanks
