Focus On: The End of Another Chapter

December harkens the end of another year. It’s an opportunity for teams and organisations to review what’s gone well and not so well in the previous 12 months. And time to start to start putting together a strategy for the next 12 months that will enable them to build on strengths, grasp opportunities - and overcome some of the weaknesses that may have held them back this year.

So, this is the ideal moment to showcase some activities in Trainers’ Library® that can help with this process of review and renewal.

Looking Back:

Here’s a simple activity where teams use a traffic light system to identify the highs and lows of the year and then use these insights to help shape the next 12 months.

An alternative activity that encourages team members to identify and reflect on what went well in the last 12 months, what people struggled with and what learning can be extracted from those experiences.

This activity can be used in lots of ways, but as part of an end of year review it can be an invaluable tool for capturing participant’s feelings around strengths and weaknesses within and organisation, and its current culture.

This is another activity that can be used to capture not just what people think the organisation’s culture is, but how well it is serving the organisation’s future success.

This is a brilliant activity to use at the end of the year. Use it to, for example, share and review customer feedback - or the results from staff surveys or mystery shopper programmes.

Looking Forward:

Review and renewal is all about improvement and this activity is a great way to get teams to identify the improvements that need to happen in their areas and how to move towards implementing them.

Improving on past performance usually involves problem solving. This module takes participants through a comprehensive structure for identifying current problems, investigating them, generating ideas and then developing and implementing solutions – before the whole process begins again!

This time of year provides a fantastic opportunity for teams and organisations to really think about what success looks like. In this activity, teams create a vision statement that they all commit to – a great starting point for a new year!

When changes are needed, it’s important to have a clear understanding of how to implement them. Through this module, participants learn a process for specifying projects and analysing the tasks that need to be completed, as well as thinking about schedules, resources and budgets.

This is one of our favourites! A very short activity that powerfully illustrates how limiting beliefs hold us back. It’s a brilliant one to use to energise a group and leave them believing that more is always possible!

Of course, when teams review their performance, they might uncover lots of other needs and you might then want to look at some of our incredible activities around customer service, the internal service chain, employee engagement, the change process, leadership or strategic thinking – to highlight just a few.

There’s so much great content in Trainers’ Library® it can feel daunting. But remember, if you’re a Trainers’ Library® member, there’s Design Coach to help you find the perfect training content for your upcoming needs. You can also tap into other members’ expertise in our Talk & Share forum.

Or drop us an email or give us a call. We’re always up for a chat – we’re weird like that!

If we don’t speak before, have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!
